AFM SUNNYSIDE 14 DAYS PRAYER AND FASTING: 16-29 JANUARY 2023
Special greetings to you all our dear brethren. As we are starting a new season, we encourage you to take part in this programme. You are encouraged to utilize this pamphlet as you fast and pray so that we are all praying in one Spirit. God exalted his Word above Himself (Psalm 138:2).
Day 1: 16 January 2023
SPIRIT OF INTERCESSION Pray for:
A release of the spirit of prayer, commit 2023 to be a year of prayerfulness, for true intercession and more intercessors.
The church is the body and the bride of Christ. A body needs to be well nourished for it to stay healthy. For the church this is through praying according to the word. The bride is only addressed as such if there is a groom otherwise it’s just a woman. The bride maintains a relationship with the groom predominantly through constant communication -for the church- the groom is Jesus and the relationship is maintained through prayer. The church is a house of prayer Jesus said: My house will be called a house of prayer: Matthew 21:13
Ezekiel 22: 30-31, Matthew 18: 19-20:18, Matthew 6:7-13, Ephesians 6:18-20, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, 2 Chronicle 7:14 Passage of the day 1 Samuel 1: 1-20
Day 2: 17 January 2023
INCREASE IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WORD Pray for:
Knowledge and power of the word of God – in order to use the word to lead people to Christ, apply it in our lives and to stay connected to God. It is vital for believers, revert to the Word of God always in all situations.
Acts 17:11, Luke 4:4, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 2:15, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Passage of the Day Luke 4:1-14
Day 3: 18 January 2023
CHURCH GROWTH Pray for:
Church growth and spiritual growth – for people to be born again, for Christians to stay born again, and grow spiritually in the knowledge and love for God. The growth of the church was Jesus’ mission to get people saved. Millions of Christians currently started with a recruitment of 4 disciples in one day: Matthew 4: 18-22. With the commitment to spread the gospel of Jesus, the number of believers increased sharply. On the day of Pentecost, 3000 believers were added to the existing ones in one day: Acts 2: 41 Church growth means many people going to heaven.
Acts 2:47, Matthew 16:18, John 12:32, 1 Corinthians 3:11, Acts 9:31, 1 Chronicles 16:29 1 Peter 2:2, 1 Timothy 4:13 Passage of the day: Rev 7:9-17
Day 4: 19 January 2023
DELIVERANCE AND RESTORATION
The gospels Mark and Luke, teach about the ‘strong man’ one who is fully armed and guards his palace, his possessions are safe until an even stronger man emerges, overpowers him, strips him of his weapons and carries off his belongings. Satan is strong and he holds possessions that he guards jealously but Christ Jesus is the one who is stronger. He is the only one who can bind up Satan and rescue us from his clutches. Jesus is our Way, our Truth, our Life.
Matthew 1:21, John 10:10, John 12:31, Psalm 116:8, Joel 2:25, Obadiah 1:17, Psalm 32:7, Isaiah 61:7
Passage of the Day: Luke 8:26-39
Day 5: 20 January 2023
ERADICATION OF STRIFE.
Pray against: Strife, envy, jealousy, forgiveness, offence, comparison, taking of offenses, rebellion, hatred.
Pray for: True love, peace in the church, oneness and faithfulness amongst brethren, submission and humility. Strife, jealousy, envy, anger, unforgiveness, offence, gossip etc. were addressed with believers (the church). Although having received Jesus as our saviour- holiness and righteousness is our responsibility to maintain. The devil constantly attacks our minds when we open ourselves up to entertain things that can lead to evil. After thinking about these things we take them to heart then we act them out. This undermines what Jesus did for us through salvation. We have to resist the devil, if we don’t, then we are resisting God.
Cain became jealous of His brother, but God warned him and provided a solution to resist the devil- and it cost him as much as it will cost us. Genesis 4: 6-7, 1 Corinthians 3:3, Proverbs 20:3, Proverbs 17:14, 2 Timothy 2:22-23, John 15:12, Luke 6:31, Corinthians 16:14: Do everything in love Passage of the day: James 4:1-8
Day 6: 21 January 2023
PURITY OF GODLY MARRIAGES AND COURTSHIP. Pray for:
Relationships, new relationships that are marriage oriented, the fear of the Lord during courtships, manifestation of Godly ordained marriages, prevalence inside the marital union, forgiveness and reconciliation in families, dedication of all families to God.
Relationships between human beings start with the relationship with God. In a normal family setting, the father should take spiritual leadership for his family as he is accountable to God for his family. If he doesn’t do so, that change the structure of authority- although God will still provide grace so that His children can enjoy His presence and glory. Adam relinquished his seat of authority and allowed the devil to influence his wife – then things started going wrong with the human race Genesis 3:6. Marriage is a covenant ordained by God and has to be conducted and maintained Gods way. Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6, Mark 10:9, 1 Peter 3:18
Divorce should not be a quick fix to settle disagreements unless there are serious emotional or physical damages.
Matthew 5:32, Malachi 2:15-16 Relationships between girlfriends and boyfriends should be aimed at marriage. God does not approve of Christian’s hurting and taking advantage of each other Lev. 25:17 Passage of the day: Ezekiel 37:1-14
Day 7: 22 January 2023
SALVATION Pray for: The harvest and harvesters, willingness among members to share the word of God, for salvation of souls and wisdom to share the gospel. Jesus sent His disciples to preach the gospel to the lost. Matthew 28:18-20, 1 Corinthians 1:17-18, Romans 1:16-17, Romans 10:14-15, 2 Tim 4:1-2, 2 Timothy 4:3-4, 1 Corinthians 1:21. Passage of the day: Luke 9:1-6
Day 8: 23 January 2023
CHILDREN – Children do not come from us, they come through us.
They are a gift from God, planned or unplanned. Parents have a responsibility of being good stewards of such gifts, we cannot protect well if we do not value accordingly.
The office of the parent is one of stewardship as in the parable of talents. The talents were divided in proportion to ability. When the master returned, he called each to account for how they had handled the talents entrusted to them. The Master will call parents to account for the children that he has entrusted to them. It is important to yield to the Holy Spirit now so that what has been given to you may multiply to God’s pleasure and honour.
Genesis 17:7, Psalm 8:1-2, Proverbs 1:8-9, Isaiah 54:13, Isaiah 65:23.
NB: Passage of the day: Psalm 78:1-8
Day 9: 24 January 2023
MANIFESTATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
One distinct instruction that Jesus gave to the disciples was to wait upon the reception of the Holy Spirit. This implies that the church can never function in the absence of the Holy Spirit. Jesus also mentioned that it was an advantage that He should leave because of the diverse advantages awarded by the Holy Spirit. Among others is, the Holy Spirit comes bearing gifts. Failure to employ the gifts is as worse than unclaimed inheritance. The church might have welcomed Him but many are still battling in allowing Him to operate effectively. 1 Corinthians 14:1, 1 Corinthians 12:31, Ephesians 1:16-17, Joel 2:28, Isaiah 61:1-4, Gal 5:22,
1 Corinthians 12:7-11
Passage of the Day: 2 Kings 2: 9-13
Day 10: 25 January 2023
REBUILDING THE WALL OF THE TEMPLE
Imagine you after you have built a carrier, legacy, empire or even just a house then everything caught fire or get stolen away from you. This is the scenario Israel had to experience after the exile period. Even after they had finished rebuilding, those that had witnessed Solomon’s era of splendor, wept. However, our God does not operate in such a manner, for he says in his word the latter temple shall be better than the former. Whatever we have lost physically, spiritually or emotionally he will restore it for the better. All we need to do is to put our trust in him wholeheartedly and commit our ways to Him. Ephesians 2:8, Galatians 2:20, Isaiah 41:10, Isaiah 43:19, Psalm 37:3-6, Proverbs 16:3, Matthew 7:24-25
NB: Passage of the day Ezra 3:7-13
Day 11: 26 January 2023
THE REMNANT
God is looking for the Samuel and Mary of our generation where His glory might dwell. No matter how corrupt the days are, God has his own prophets who have not knelt to Baal. We need to be found among the few remnants for God.
2 Corinthians 7:1, 1 Peter 1:15-16, Hebrews 12:14, Psalm 119:9, 2Tim 1:9, Psalm 139:23-24.
Day 12: 26 January 2023
INNER HEALING
Our God knows the inner depth of our being. Even the hairs in our heads are numbered. God is the one that knitted us in our mother’s womb and nothing is difficult for him. He reaches beyond human comprehension, even into the depth of the sea. Whatever we are going through he understands and he has a solution for that. All we need is to surrender everything to him.
Psalm 103:1-4, Jeremiah 30:17, Psalm 34:1, Psalm 30:2, Jeremiah 33:6, James 5:15, Exodus 15: 26, Psalm 30:10-11, Psalm 6:2. Passage of the day Matt 9:1-12
Day 13: 26 January 2023
TRAINING MENTORSHIP
Each generation know better than the previous generation, hence it is wiser to imitate those who have taken the route before. Some problems have solutions bestowed in the grey hair. Samuel had to be mentored to listen to the voice of God by Eli even though the Bible mentioned that the voice of God was not heard in that era. Moses needed a Jethro even though Jethro had never attempted to cross the wilderness with such a multitude. One of the difficult traits in life is to find your own Jethro. Above
all, the idea of another authority above ourselves after leaving our parent’s household is an unimaginable venture.
Proverbs 22: 6: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
2 Timothy 3:14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it. Deuteronomy 6:5-9 1 Timothy 4:10-11, Philippians 3:7, Philippians 4:9, Hebrews 13:7, Proverbs 23:13-14. Passage of the day 2 Chronicles 10:1-19
Day 14: 23 January 2023
PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE GENERATION
A relay race is an event where a team of four people run equal distances each while passing a baton stick to one another until the race is completed. It is an example of teamwork and coordination, much like what Paul teaches concerning the body of Christ.
As the church we can learn from this, the baton stick has to be passed on from one generation to the next until Christ returns. We must do so with endurance by keeping our eyes on Christ Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith
Psalms 119:9, Joel 2:28, Hebrews 12:1, Hebrews 12:2, 1 Tim 4:12, 2 Timothy 2:20-21, 2 Timothy 2:22, 1 Peter 5:5.
Passage of the day: 1 John 2:15-17
